The environment that surrounds us can have a large impact in our skin’s health and integrity. Environmental stressors like the sun, humidity, air pollution and even the cold can all influence our skin’s texture. From acne to dry skin to sun spots, your skin is constantly changing. If you’re like me, you may have difficulties discovering what kind of skin type you have. We all want smooth, clear, soft skin but how do we achieve these skin goals when texture keeps getting in the way? It’s common to experience excess oil in the hotter month and dry skin patches in the colder months but establishing a skin care routine that can help with skin texture can be extremely impactful. The following are four tips that can help you combat skin texture for a more even, bright complexion.
- Incorporate a chemical exfoliant. Before discovering the wonderous benefits of a chemical exfoliant, I used to excessively irritate my skin with physical exfoliants. While physical exfoliants can be good for some individuals (like those with dry skin), opting for a gentler exfoliation will truly improve your overall skin texture. Chemical exfoliation products are often formulated with alpha hydroxy acids and beta hydroxy acids. These include products made with; lactic acid, glycolic acid or citric acids. These products will work to penetrate your skin’s surface and deeply exfoliate and hydrate for a brighter, clearer complexion. Fyab’s Foaming Facial Cleanser is formulated with glycolic acid to deeply cleanse your skin, the Renewal Serum contains citric acid and the Blemish Control Serum is formulated with mandelic acid to clear skin while also soothing your complexion. - Make sure your skin is properly hydrated. When your skin’s hydration begins to decline, you can often notice more dry and flakey patches on your skin which leads to skin texture. To avoid this texture, it is important to incorporate serums or moisturizers that will keep your skin hydrated for longer periods of time. Moisturizing products formulated with niacinamide and antioxidants like Fyab Health’s Renewal Serum, can help your skin retain moisture for longer to avoid dry, dull skin when 5 o’clock comes around. Regardless of your skin type, it is very important to apply moisturizer twice a day after cleansing to keep your skin nice and healthy.
- Use serums formulated with Vitamin C. Vitamin C and antioxidant rich skin serums help improve your skin’s texture by repairing and protecting your skin barrier from environmental damage like UV rays. Vitamin C is also good at combatting skin discoloration and age spots for a more even, younger-looking complexion. Fyab’s Brightening Serum is formulated with Vitamin C, Vitamin E and other powerful ingredients to help protect and restore your skin’s barrier and avoid excess texture.
- Always use sunscreen. If you live in a warm and sunny climate like I do, you probably spend a lot of time out in the sun. Upon waking up every morning, it is EXTREMELY important to always apply a good facial sunscreen that will protect you from UV damage. UV rays can dehydrate your skin and essentially add to your skin texture. They also cause the break-down of collagen and elastin, furthering the skin aging process and adding sun spots, fine lines and wrinkles. The easiest step to take in preventing skin texture is to limit your time in the sun and protect your skin.
